Historian R. Champakalakshmi Passes Away

✪ R. Champakalakshmi, an esteemed historian and professor passed away recently. She was an Indian historian and social scientist who had specialized in South Indian history. Her main areas of research were religion and society, trade, urbanization and state formation, and art and architecture.

She served as a Professor in the Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and President of the Indian History Congress.

✪ Dr. Nitya Anand, who made the first oral contraceptive pill ‘Saheli’ in India, passed away at 99 in Lucknow. 

☆ Dr. Anand was in charge of the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) from 1974 to 1984. He was part of CDRI since it started in 1951.
