Sarnath (Buddhist Pilgrimage)

Emperor Ashoka visited Sarnath in around 250 BCE, to mark it as a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site, erecting the famous Ashoka Pillar (Lion Capital) to commemorate the Buddha’s first sermon there. He established Sarnath as a holy place by building stupas and pillars, solidifying its importance in Buddhist history during his reign.
