Local Group

A Group of Galaxies contains two or more galaxies of bigger size and a dozen or more smaller galaxies

Local Group, in astronomy, is the group of more than 20 galaxies to which the Milky Way Galaxy belongs. The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are the two large galaxies in the Local Group. There are a few dozen smaller galaxies in the group, including the Magellanic Clouds, the dwarf elliptical Messier 32, the small spiral galaxy Messier 33, and many small dwarf galaxies. The Local Group of galaxies is a few million light-years across.

The Local Group is actually centered on the Virgo Cluster of galaxies. The Local Group is part of an even bigger collection of galaxies called the Local Supercluster. This larger structure is also called the Virgo Supercluster.
