The dockyard at Lothal is roughly 223 m. in length, 35 m. in width and 8 m. in depth. The dockyard is a trapezoidal basin that's bound by baked bricks on all sides. It's located at the eastern edge of the township.

The shape of this dockyard is roughly like a trapezoid. The dockyard also has a setting to maintain regular water employing a sluice gate ...It is said that then the dockyard could hold 30 ships of 60 tons each or 60 ships of 30 tons each.

Sluice Gate

A sluice gate and a spill channel [12.30 m. wide ] maintained a consistent water level in the dockyard so that if there is excess water can be drained out.  A direct link between Lothal and the former course of the River Sabarmati has also been identified.
